...for this to matter?
I suppose some people are sticklers for correct grammar. I know, for myself, that I hate it when people misspell things.
Oh well. I'm not gonna rant about this, as everyone has their ideosyncrasies.
Just seems to be nit-picky, to me.
But, again, I dunt buthcer my sintences.

Just how anal do you have to be...

I can't see how it hurts for someone to verify what was actually said. Either he contradicts himself or he doesn't - I think that's fairly important. Fortunately, the record indicates he got it right.
It doesn't strike me as anal; we heard one thing, he thought he said something else, someone looks it up, his version checks out, everyone goes home happy. Considering how famous that statement is and how often it's cited, it's nice to know it makes sense.
Words convey meaning. That's their purpose. When they're misused they convey ideas other than what was intended.
There's my two cents on the subject. =)
Just seems anal, to me, to worry whether or not Mr. Armstrong put an 'a' in there. I wonder if there are people who have gotten upset over this issue.
Ultimately, you are correct. Just seems silly, to me, to worry/research this.
You do understand that "One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind" is entirely nonsensical, right?
Ignoring linguistics, it's important to get the record right from a historical perspective; the crux of good history being good records of events as they happened.
If you had been misquoted while performing one of the greatest achievements of your life would you be upset if someone put forth a moderate amount of effort to vindicate you? ('cause I'd do it for you, old buddy) =)
I appreciate your helpfulness, old friend. :) And yes, I'd be upset too. I think Leah brings up a good point.
Leah said (not edited):All I'll say is this...Doesn't anybody have anything better to worry about on this planet besides grammer and punctuation?! Serious, if the energy invested into spelling corrections was invested else where(saving endangered animals and global warming), wouldn't the world be a better place?
And Ben does have a point about words being mis-used. But even when you say something to someone EXACTLY how you're feeling it, have you noticed they retain the info however they want? Selective Hearing anyone? Anyone?
PS~I'm the worst speller under the sun, thats the reason for this rant
All I can say to Leah's comment is, touché. =)
(but as a historian, I'm still glad the record was set straight)
